Sample: New team member — first weekSample
Steps
What a new starter does in their first five days, and who is responsible for each part of it.
1. Day 1 — accounts, desk, and someone to have lunch with
Manager · 60 min
Logins working before they arrive, not on the day. Assign a buddy who is not their manager — the questions people are embarrassed to ask their manager are the ones that matter most in week one.
- SPM login and permissions set
- Email and calendar working
- Buddy assigned
- Payroll and super details collected
2. Day 1–2 — work through the Sole Academy starter path
New starter · 90 min
The "New team member" learning path in Sole Academy covers the tool. Do that before touching live client work — it saves everyone a fortnight of over-the-shoulder questions.
3. Day 2 — read the must-read SOPs
New starter · 45 min
Every SOP flagged as must-read, acknowledged as you go. That is how we know you have actually seen how we do things rather than guessing from how your last firm did.
4. Day 3–4 — shadow, then do one with someone watching
Buddy · 120 min
Watch a real job end to end, then do the next one with the buddy watching. Reading an SOP and following it are different skills.
5. Day 5 — a proper check-in
Manager · 30 min
What was confusing? What was missing from the SOPs? Anything they flag gets fixed in the SOP that week, while it is still fresh.
Warning: This is the highest-value feedback you will ever get on your SOPs. A new starter is the only person who reads them without already knowing the answer.
